The Mathematics and Information Science Building on the main campus of the Warsaw University of Technology

The Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science

The Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science (MiNI) was established in 1999 as a result of the division of the Faculty of Technical Physics and Applied Mathematics. Initially, it was in the Main Building of the Warsaw University of Technology, however in 2012 it was moved to the newly finished building located at Koszykowa 75.

The MiNI faculty has a high academic rank. In the evaluation for the years 2017-2021 the two main scientific disciplines of our faculty, Mathematics and Computer Science, received the A category. Also, in the previous years the faculty had the A category in the disciplines of science: Mathematics and Computer Science. The quality of research conducted at the faculty is witnessed by the high rank in the QS World University Ranking by Subject, for Computer Science and Information systems, the rank is 251-300, for Mathematics it is 301-350. The members of the faculty conduct numerous research projects financed by internal grants of Excelence Initiative-Research University (IDUB), national agencies like National Science Centre (NCN), National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR), as well as international projects which are part of H2020, IdeaLab and PolNor. The MiNi faculty also conducts projects from private subjects and the business sector via the Center for Business Applications established in 2011. Moreover, the Center for Analysis and Statistical Learning founded in 2021 at our faculty conducts research in data analysis.

The MiNI faculty has been authorized to confer the degree of PhD (doctorate), and the degree of DSc (habilitation) in Mathematics as well in Computer Science. Since 2019 the permission to grant scientific degrees was transferred respectively to the Scientific Council of Mathematics and the Scientific Council of Computer Science of the Warsaw University of Technology. The faculty has also conducted PhD graduate studies in Mathematics and Computer Science. Since 2019 these are conducted by the Doctoral School of the Warsaw University of Technology.

The MiNI Faculty conducts teaching at four bachelor’s and master’s level fields of study: Mathematics, Computer Science and Information Systems, and the recently established Data Analysis and Engineering (since 2017) and Mathematics and Data Analysis (since 2019). All these fields of study bring to our faculty the best students, the entry requirements to our faculty are amongst the highest at the Warsaw University of Technology.   The high level of academic teaching reflects the close cooperation between mathematicians and computer scientists in our faculty. The field of study Mathematics was awarded a distinction by the Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA) in 2010 and 2018. The fields of study Computer Science and Data Analysis and Engineering received a positive evaluation in the years 2016 and 2022.
